Moreover, who's in control of your information? It may not always be you. At Facebook's F8 summit, two things happened - Facebook Connect (that convenient way to log into external websites using your Facebook credentials) was abandoned, but replaced with a more formidable successor - "Allow Instant Personalization". This little checkbox allows all of the personal information you provided to Facebook to be redistributed to other companies to "personalize" your online experience, both in and outside of Facebook.
Bottom line: As much as learning the new ways of social media marketing is integral to success, you also need to know what type of information you are sharing with the world. The beauty of Facebook is that you can expand or contract your online presence as much as you like - so long as you know what your privacy settings are doing for you!
